Diversity Therapy GTA & Ontario
Diversity & Inclusion
Seeking therapy can be a vulnerable process-more so for those of you coming from marginalized communities. Cultural taboos and stereotypes surrounding mental health within BIPOC (Black, Indigenous and People Of Colour), intersectional communities (ethnicity, gender, sexual orientation, disability, neurodivergence) can hinder individuals from seeking help or openly discussing their struggles.
“It is not our differences that divide us. It is our inability to recognize, accept, and celebrate those differences”
-Audre Lorde
Do you feel like this?
- "I have always felt different".
- "No one around me understands me".
- "I don't fit in or belong anywhere".
- "I don’t feel seen, safe in my body or my identity".
- "Language barriers stop me from seeking help".
Or grapple with this?
- Afraid people might judge/reject you if you speak your truth
- Being discriminated against based on your appearance.
- Often question your own sense of worth.
- Experiencing things that most others will never have to.
- Constantly educating others about your culture, background...
Being with a culturally responsive, 2SLGBTQ+ affirming therapist that celebrates your full identity is important.
It's possible to feel better
I’m passionate about bringing my knowledge, skills, lived experiences, awareness and sensitivity to all these issues to promote a nonjudgmental and inclusive therapeutic environment.
I will incorporate culturally sensitive therapeutic techniques in our diversity therapy sessions that align with your cultural background and values.
Explore and examine where you are
- Explore your intersectional identity and lived experiences in a gentle and affirming way.
- Examine without judgement how your life circumstances have forced you to learn to keep surviving, hiding aspects of your authentic self.
Understand and learn
- Through diversity & inclusion therapy, we will seek to understand the roots of the barriers, systemic inequities and oppression you have been facing and the impact it has had on your physical, emotional health and wellbeing.
Create a life where you can:
- Have a greater understanding of your body and skills for self-regulation.
- Have the tools to express yourself authentically.
- Move through this world feeling confident and shed yourself of shame.
